This mobile application (app) was launched in 2015 by the Ministry of National Security (MNS) to allow the public to contact the police. The software is a cost-effective and practical solution to support personal safety, especially for persons who live or travel alone. The main features of the app are
- Panic Mode — to alert the police in cases of emergency
- Report — to share information anonymously
- The Law — to access a concise version of legislations
- Alerts — to receive important notices from the police
JamaicaEye
This programme provides video surveillance in communities. The cameras monitor public areas and in the case of an incident, whether disaster, criminal conduct, or an accident, the authorities will be able to adequately respond by using available footage as evidence.
Neighbourhood Watch
The Neighbourhood Watch has been active since 1987. Through this initiative, residents collaborate in looking out for suspicious activities in the area and making relevant reports to the police.
Farm Watch
This programme encourages farmers to develop a ‘buddy system’ with their neighbours and to actively seek out trustworthy persons to join the group in tracking and ultimately reducing praedial larceny.
